THE LOST WAX PROCESS
Click here to view a photographic walk through taken during the various steps of the classic method called the "lost wax" process.  The photos come to AcanthusArts.org courtesy of Robert Bricker and his company, Bronze Craft Foundry for Sculpture.  The piece featured in the article was modeled by Roger Rogan and was cast by Robert Bricker and his staff at the foundry in Waynesboro, VA.   view photos >>

COLLAGE / NEW!
Please take a moment to visit our new friends from "Collage" in Washington, DC.   We are grateful to be hosting some of recent work contributed by "Collage Artists," and suggest firmly that you go to their cafe as I am assured that it is more red in person than our pictures convey.  go there >>

A NEW TIGER FOR WOODBERRY ?

Natalie Lewis, veteran stone carving teacher and 30+ year patron of Woodberry Forest School is currently working on a 13 ft. tiger model as part of her continuing expression of commitment to the school.  Currently, the model is nearing completion and will be cast with funding provided by a consortium of her former students and other WFS Alumni.  The pictures within were taken in September 2003 at her residence and studio in Flint Hill, VA.  AcanthusArts will be closely following the piece through the fundraising and casting process.    view photos >>

THE MAKING OF A MONUMENT

Bronze Craft Foundry of Charlottesville, VA was responsible for casting the controversial Arthur Ashe memorial that was ultimately found it's home on Monument Avenue in Richmond.  Working on the piece brought public focus to Bronze Craft Foundry, and demonstrated the intricate difficulties that can swirl around public art.  Now several years on with the furor ebbing, we offer a look inside the creation of a bronze on this scale.    view photos >>

MAIGH.COM
Maigh's site.  Maigh's blog.  M's everwhere. She's a curious sort I met through a few mutual friends who are decidedly less curious.  There is something about her antics, misadventures, and resplendent wit that, when chronicled (as she is like to do), make the cynics of the world less so.  She is indeed a literary blissmaker on the make...maybe I've redeemed myself now...Go there like it says to the right....go there... Next one over.   go there >>

NINE PLANETS WITHOUT INTELLIGENT LIFE
BohemianDrive.com is the home of "Nine Planets Without Intelligent Life" by Adam Reed, a web comic about two recently unemployed working-class robots who, spurred by their outlawed bohemian drive circuits, decide to take a tour of the solar system. In some ways it is Jack Kerouac a la "On the Road" and in some ways Futurama.  Well worth a stop...    go there >>

JOE & BOB'S INTERNET ART SHOW
Dave Hellman and Robert Bricker teamed up to make this so called "Ground-Zero Adventure Coloring Book." It is a self-proclaimed "Manifesto for the Turning of a Millennium" and because of it's title, renewed interest, and persistent relevance, AcanthusArts.org is pleased to bring it back. Click the graphic to the left to see the first 20 pages of this work.    go there >>
